The postman has brought no new brochures to my door and I have many slots to fill up in my pursuit of knowledge. This afternoon I set about looking on the net for courses near me. Regular bloggers will know I have seen one of the local council brochures but the one I found on the web today was bright and cheerful and made me feel welcome. I am almost settled on beginners German especially because I have seen a private one ON MY DOORSTEP so I could do two at once enabling comparison and double the learning. However, the arts and crafts area was less inviting as I fancy something arty in the daytime and the nearest ones were at night. While on that subject and looking elsewhere the basket makers website is a mine of information, see the link.
I turned to the WEA where I punched in my postcode with vigour six times to no avail – only when I went via a region did I get anything useful and then not much. Rather a frustrating site so people must get at these courses another way, though the course information itself is good. I noticed that, although there was a WEA course in my town, the brochure I had looked at before, covering the area, didn’t tell me about it. Too many brochures – too little synergy.
I have however, also been to the U3A Website (wrinklies are us) I think I might scrape under the age barrier for their offer and indeed I hope I do – the website is basic as anything but I think it will be cheap and hopefully cheerful. I am planning my visit to their monthly meeting to see what it would be like although clearly this is admitting to entering a certain lifestage.
